Company History
Ebony Nile Production was founded in 2001 by Beverly Hewitt and Carol Japp, with a mission to celebrate Caribbean culture through authentic theatrical production.
Ebony Nile Production promoted comedian plays in collaboration with Oliver Samuels. This marked the beginning of a strong commitment to culturally rooted story telling.
This became an annual event taking place every Mother’s Day Weekend, which has been very successful for the last 25 years. People look forward to celebrating the weekend with the king of comedy.
It’s a joy to see children taking their parents out Mother’s Day Weekend to see the iconic Oliver Samuels.
Ebony Nile Production is Unique in the Canadian Caribbean Theatre Landscape because it has consistently served as a cultural bridge between the Caribbean Diaspora in Canada while maintaining authenticity, accessibility and major appeal.
Ebony Nile has played a very important role in preserving, elevating and expanding Caribbean theatre in Canada through life long responsible management .
The long standing collaboration with Oliver Samuels sets a very high standard for Caribbean theatre presented in Canada.
Ebony Nile Production is also distinguished by it’s community centered approach. Productions are created with caribbean audiences in mind using familiar language humor and life experiences, while still welcoming broader audiences.
Carol Japp’s Bio
Carol Japp is a Canadian Promoter, and cofounder of Ebony Nile Production, a company dedicated to celebrating Caribbean Performing Arts in Canada.
Through Ebony Nile Production Bev and Carol have successfully promoted many stage plays. They’ve brought many performers mainly internationally acclaimed Jamaican Comedian, Oliver Samuels to Canadian audiences.
Carol is widely respected for her commitment to provide quality entertainment to the Caribbean Diaspora. Ebony Nile’s annual Mother’s Day weekend event has become a staple. People look forward to attending annually. It is very successful. The plays are known for their humor and broad appeal.
Each story line often depicts every day life, with humor in it. People love that about the shows.
My goal is to continue to provide quality entertainment to the Caribbean community.
Beverly hewitt’s Bio
Beverly Hewitt is the founder and driving force behind Ebony Nile Production, a company dedicated to celebrating and advancing Caribbean theatre in Canada.
For over 25 years Bev has been involved in presenting and promoting culturally authentic stage plays that reflect Caribbean humor, language and lived experiences, and clean dialogue that’s suitable for everyone of all ages.
Through Ebony Nile Production Bev has managed to acquire the services of iconic Actor/Comedian Oliver Samuels annually who has helped the company showcase 25 successful plays
I am passionate about cultural preservation, storytelling and community engagement. I take pride in promoting each production that is being showcased.
My journey continues to be guided by a commitment to continue to provide quality entertainment to the Caribbean community at large.
